Our Teachers

Seattle Insight has two Guiding Teachers, Tim Geil and Tuere Sala along with one senior teacher, Keri Pederson. We also have a number of Assistant Teachers and Local Dharma Leaders, all of whom are experienced practitioners and have been given permission to share the Dharma under the supervision of our Guiding Teachers.

Teacher Code of Ethics

Introduction

Seattle Insight Meditation’s Guiding Teachers, Assistant Teachers and Local Dharma Leaders recognize that the foundation of spiritual life rests upon our mindful and caring relationship to the life around us and have thus agreed to the following guidelines and precepts. We acknowledge that without the support of monastic vows and Asian customs, we have a need for clear Western guidelines. In keeping with this understanding, and for the long-term benefit of ourselves and the community at large, we, as lay teachers, agree to uphold the five lay training precepts. Furthermore, we have specifically expanded the scope of these five precepts to make them explicitly appropriate to our role as teachers of the Dharma in our specific cultural setting.

  • We undertake the precept of refraining from killing.
  • We undertake the precept of refraining from stealing.
  • We undertake the precept of refraining from false speech.
  • We undertake the precept of refraining from sexual misconduct.
  • We undertake the precept of refraining from intoxicants that cause heedlessness or loss of awareness.

Please see the expanded version of the precepts here.

Individual Practice Meetings

Introduction

Seattle Insight’s Guiding Teachers and Assistant Teachers offer the opportunity for personal practice interviews with Seattle Insight sangha members. Even though there is usually ample time for questions in the classes and meetings offered by Seattle Insight, some people have difficulty asking a question in a large group, or feel that certain issues or themes could use more dialogue. A one-to-one connection with an experienced practitioner can be a helpful way to nourish one’s practice.
