Bhante Rahula

Born in Mexico, Bhante Rāhula, a former musician and composer, moved to Asia in 2001 where he lived for 20 years and began the practice and study of the Buddha’s teaching. He was ordained in Myanmar under the Most Venerable Sayadaw Dr. Nandamālābhivaṃsa.

Since 2004, he has received meditation guidance from Sayadaw U Tejaniya and studied Sutta and Abhidhamma with Sayadaw Dr. Ukkamsacara in Macau. In 2019, he completed a course on Buddhist scriptures from Harvard University. Bhante continued his monastic training at SBS in Malaysia for 2 years under the guidance of Venerable Ariyadhammika, while offering Dhamma talks, retreats, and activities for the local community.

In 2025, Bhante was invited to lead a pilgrimage-retreat to the sacred sites of the Buddha in India and Nepal with meditators from Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil. He leads retreats and Dhamma tours across Asia, North and South America in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and offers weekly in person and online classes since 2016. Bhante accompanies and supports students from 18 countries in their Dhamma practice and exploration. He is currently building the Mexican Buddhist Center (Paññābhūmi Monastery) to share the Buddha’s teachings and envisioning the making of a nunnery to support the female order in Latin America.

Recognizing the immense challenges and lack of tools in the region, Bhante -while keeping inner cultivation as his priority- supports programs in palliative care centers, hospitals, universities, for youth education, and in centers working for freedom from addictions, a pressing issue affecting the lives of many. Embracing service as an expression of generosity, Bhante Rāhula walks together with the community, sharing the Dhamma while taking care and nurturing the path to liberation.
