Having an ongoing group to sit with can give strength and energy to our personal meditation practice – and help cultivate community. These weekly or biweekly groups are facilitated by a Seattle Insight teacher or leader. To read more about these groups or to see upcoming topics, view the list of upcoming weekly practice sessions. If you have never meditated before or need a refresh, please consider taking an Introduction to Meditation class.

For the past several years, Seattle Insight has selected a yearly teaching series, which is followed by the various weekly meditation sessions that offer Dharma talks and discussions.
This six week course teaches the fundamentals of insight or mindfulness meditation and is highly recommended before attending other classes and events. It’s designed to help you establish a regular home practice. It is a 2 hour class that meets weekly for six weeks. This course centers around the Buddha’s teachings on mindfulness meditation. Our regular classes and events do not teach meditation techniques. Basic meditation instruction is highly recommended for people new to meditation before attending other offerings.
Seattle Insight is also fortunate to have regular guest teachers who come to hold evening talks and nonresidential retreats. Guest teachers will generally offer a public talk on the Friday before their nonresidential weekend. Some of regular guest teachers at Seattle Insight have included Sharon Salzberg, Ajahn Sumedho, Norman Fischer, Christina Feldman, Phillip Moffitt, Steve Armstrong, and numerous others who visit and freely offer their wisdom and deep practice to our sangha. Visit the guest teacher page to read more bios.
Many Seattle Insight events have been scheduled through the rest of the year, including nonresidential retreats and guest teachers, Introduction to Meditation classes, and residential retreats at various centers with our Guiding Teachers. Please see a listing of these events and more at the Year At A Glance page.
Retreats provide a structured, dedicated practice period in which we are able to set aside our usual routines and explore a greater continuity and depth of mindfulness in the company or others. These conditions are ideal for the deepening of understanding, and we can gain confidence in our capacity to sustain a home practice
