Retreats & Daylongs

About Retreats

Retreats are especially useful in strengthening our practice capacity. They provide a structured, dedicated practice period in which we are able to set aside our usual obligations and routines and explore a greater continuity and depth of mindfulness in the company or others. These conditions are ideal for the deepening of understanding, and we can gain confidence in our capacity to sustain a home practice. Seattle Insight offers regular daylong and weekend retreats throughout the year, and our teachers lead residential retreats at various centers. Check out some of our upcoming retreats below.

Nonresidential Retreats and Daylongs at Seattle Insight

Please refer to the schedule below for upcoming nonresidential and daylong retreats at Seattle Insight.

Weekend Nonresidential Retreats

Seattle Insight offers daylong and weekend nonresidential retreats led by our own teachers as well as by guest leaders. Following the same format as a residential retreat, nonresidential retreats provide an opportunity for a weekend of extended practice.  Please see the upcoming schedule at the top of this page.

Days of Mindfulness and Daylongs

A day of mindfulness is included with the registration for the Introduction to Meditation class. This day is designed for beginners, but many experienced practitioners like to join the intro class members for a day of practice. Daylong retreats are offered by Seattle Insight’s Guiding Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Local Dharma Leaders and visiting teachers. A daylong is an accessible opportunity for a day of sustained practice. Guided meditations, sitting and walking meditations, talks and dialogues with the teacher are all part of a daylong retreat. A day of mindfulness or a daylong retreat usually starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 4:30 PM.

Residential retreats

Residential Retreats

Retreats offer sustained practice that deepens our understanding of the Dharma. They usually include meditation instructions, sitting and walking meditation practice, Dharma talks, and dialogues with the teacher. Residential retreats offer a full immersion into meditation practice from early morning to evening. The length of retreats generally ranges from two days to six weeks although a retreat can last as long as three months or more.

Seattle Insight does not offer residential retreats because we do not own a retreat center. Our Guiding Teachers, Tuere Sala, Tim Geil and Keri Pederson, all teach at one or more of the retreat centers listed below.

Residential Retreat Centers

Cloud Mountain Retreat Center

Cloud Mountain Retreat Center is a non-sectarian Buddhist center offering year-round residential meditation retreats in the forests of southwest Washington. Nestled on fifteen serene acres, it provides a peaceful refuge shared with diverse wildlife and nature. Retreatants engage in meditation, Dharma teachings, and quiet reflection to deepen insight, compassion, and inner freedom.

Spirit Rock Insight Meditation Center

Spirit Rock retreats offer a silent, immersive environment for intensive mindfulness and lovingkindness (mettā) meditation, akin to a language immersion course for the heart and mind. With minimal distractions, participants deepen self-awareness, clarity, and compassion, fostering insight and inner freedom.
