You must see the limitation of your efforts before you will surrender your will. Watch how you get in the way of qualities such as relaxation, concentration, and awareness. If you think you can force awakening, the Ox will never be tamed. What is naturally with you when you are interested in what you are doing? Do you have to force your mind to be aware, focused, or relaxed? These qualities preexist your efforts. Try relaxing into the awareness that is already here rather than creating the experience of “me being mindful.” Watch what happens to your mindfulness when you force yourself to be continuously aware.
