Description

The body is a residing stranger to most of us.  We think we know what it is, but we have not given ourselves to it thoroughly so that it reveals its secrets.

Homework

This week begin to welcome yourself back into your body by contemplating the body as the body. How does the body feel right now? What does it need, what is happening to it, and how is it responding to your actions and thoughts? What is the body in and of itself, free of your opinions and history? If you feel too distant and removed from your body and lost in thought, stop and welcome yourself back by saying, “here,” gently with a loving tone. In meditation use the breath to stabilize your attention and to establish a calming influence. Notice the quality of the breath on each inhalation and exhalation. Is it long or short, smooth or jagged? Next move your attention to the whole body and abide there with sensitivity and calm.
