Insight Meditation, also known as mindfulness or vipassana meditation, comes from the early Buddhist tradition. Through learning to bring a steady and spacious awareness to direct experience, moment by moment, the practice aims to free the mind from the distortions of self-centeredness, negativity, and confusion. Seeing life as a constantly changing process, one begins to accept pleasure and pain, fear and joy, and all aspects of life, with increasing balance, compassion, and freedom.
This six-week series offers participants teachings about what Insight Meditation is, how it works, and how to do it. The focus is on bringing insight and loving-kindness practices into daily life, both on and off the meditation cushion. Many people take the class more than once, to refresh and strengthen their existing practice.
This class will include:
● Guided meditation instruction
● Sitting and walking meditation practice
● Meditation posture and techniques
● Talks and guidance on understanding the principles of meditation
● Group discussions
● Weekly practice suggestions
● Daylong meditation retreat (see date at top of the page)
