Special Note:

Session Description

The six guidelines of Insight Dialogue — Pause, Relax, Open, Trust Emergence, Listen Deeply, and Speak the Truth — are simple to name and take practice to inhabit. A weekend offers what a weekly class can’t: an extended container to settle into them.

Over two days we’ll take up each guideline in turn, deepening your grounding in all six — whether you met them four weeks ago or have been living with them for years. That mix is deliberate: newer practitioners deepen fastest with experienced partners, and longtime practitioners find their understanding revitalized by the beginner’s mind across from them. Our aim is the aim of all Dhamma practice — seeing how suffering arises, and touching freedom from it, right in the middle of relationship.

Our practice periods are held in silence, alternating quiet meditation with formal Insight Dialogue practice. Between sessions the silence lifts, and meals and breaks are yours to connect in.

Something happens when people practice together this way: you come to know each other quickly, and warmly, in a way ordinary conversation rarely reaches. This is how a sangha gets woven — not just over coffee after a talk, but in practice itself. If you’ve been coming to Seattle Insight and still feel like a visitor, this is a weekend of belonging.

The retreat will include:

  • Silent sitting and walking meditation
  • Instruction in the six Insight Dialogue guidelines
  • Formal Insight Dialogue practice with partners
  • Dharma talks from the teacher
  • Large group practice
  • Suggestions for continuing the practice at home

Experience Requirements

This is a deepening in Insight Dialogue, not an introduction to meditation. This retreat is open to those who have completed an Introduction to Insight Dialogue course or retreat, who have equivalent experience with Insight Dialogue practice, and who have an established mindfulness practice.
