What do you feel you should be doing in your spiritual life that you are not doing now? Do you feel a compelling need to be more aligned with your heart, or is it a casual intention? Start with the benefits of maintaining your current behavior. Experience its limitation—what you miss by not changing. Form a firm intention, a full-hearted aspiration, but make it practical and possible. An example might be to listen to the other person every time you get angry instead of turning away. Be willing to make many false starts and have limited success. Examine experientially what keeps you from owning this intention completely. Do not judge or mark your progress, but regardless of the results, maintain the intention to listen and not turn away. Your ability to offer a wise view response in the middle of your anger will be directly related to the resolve of your intention and how you hold yourself when you are not up to the task.
