This month we will be practicing with virtue (Sila in Pali). These first two weeks are about investigating the nature of virtue in our own lives. The four conditions that give rise to virtuous conduct are chastity (or integrity), calmness, quiet (or solitude) and extinguishment. Over the next two weeks consider the presence of these conditions around your actions. How much connection do you have with the impact of your actions? Is it worth winning the argument or getting your way if there is harm later? How do you experience calmness? Is there a difference in the felt sense of solitude or quiet? What about investigating extinguishment — how much judgment do you have around your unskillful actions? Try bringing in a sense of integrity, calmness and quietude around your unskillful conduct. What effect or difference, if any, does this have on your judgment?
