Look at the following statement and reflect on how a spiritual life is different than a secular life: When you “show up” for your life, the quality of your action cannot be solely based on seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. Do you find this statement true in your spiritual practice? If so, why?

Study a few of your behaviors such as sleeping, eating, listening to music, or watching videos. When do these activities become indulgent? Are all forms of entertainment self-indulgent? Is spiritual practice opposed to pleasurable activities? What is the difference between being aware of pleasure and indulging in it? This week “show up” for all your indulgent actions and see what qualitative changes occur within that activity.
