Examine your strategy around making decisions. What prevents you from being decisive and resolute? Are you afraid of making mistakes? How does your image suffer (or how is it confirmed) when you choose incorrectly? The dharma is not concerned with confirming the image but in understanding the image that drives the activity. From a spiritual perspective, mistakes are a powerful opportunity to see the image that is driving your perfectionism.

Watch the three components of decision making this week: (1) the conflicting desires associated with a decision, (2) the self-image that arises during the decision, and (3) what the mind does after the decision is over. Which of these stages is the most painful? Examine the pain closely and discover the image associated with it.
