- The Six Fears 2004-01-20
This week study one of your habit patterns. Let it tell you its experiential story, its payoff and limitation. Do not interfere with it in any way. Feel how it serves you, how easy it is to act within a known pattern. Try to become aware in the middle of the activity. Can you feel the known safe world within the habit? Pick an easy everyday activity such as brushing your teeth and intentionally go against this habit by brushing with the opposite hand. What arises—annoyance, frustration? Your known world is breaking apart when you switch hands. Can you see how fear arises from the loss of what we know? How engaged is your heart when you live within habit? Experience other limitations in living with just what you know. How would you live if you took this insight to heart?
