What do you now know about yourself from having practiced the dharma? What do you know about the nature of mind and reality? How much of what you know is philosophical and how much has been seen directly and realized? What you directly know is not sustained by blind belief and cannot be taken away by argument. This week write down a list of what you know to be true from your practice and what is surmised but uncertain (e.g., wanting and suffering, inherent wonder of life, the emptiness of “I” and my story). Take one of the uncertain elements and work with it throughout the day. First decide whether you really want to see it and then take an intention to discover that truth. Ask direct, nonintellectual questions such as “What am I wanting that is not being offered?” throughout the day that help experientially explore the topic.
