Satipatthana Sutta, Introduction: Foundations

Description

The Satipatthana Sutta is the application of the Buddha’s teaching.  After the view has been offered and an intention has been aroused, it answers the question, “What do I do now?”

Homework

How well do you understand the direction this sutta is pointing? This sutta is the application of practice but practices must base themselves firmly within a direction and purpose or they flounder. Before starting the study of this sutta, ask yourself why you practice, toward what goal, for what reason. Is this a self- and mind-based practice or is it selfless and heart based? How will you know which one is in control while you are practicing? Spend these early weeks looking deeply at the differences between a mind- and heart-based practice.
