Description

This is the final class in a series of 6 classes meant to introduce the basics of Insight Meditation to beginners.  In each session Rodney Smith provides guided meditation instruction, homework to be done daily for a week, answers questions from students and introduces new concepts and techniques that build from previous sessions.

Homework

Reflection: What does it mean to let go, to leave something alone? Reflect on how you usually manipulate or attempt to alter an event rather than simply letting it be. How easy has it been for you to let go of your desires, resentments, angers, or frustrations? What did you carry into the future and why were you unable to come to complete resolution and move on? What does it feel like to hold onto your pain and pride?

Exercise: Practice “letting go.” Letting go does not have to be developed, it only has to be executed. Instead of trying to understand everything, or figure things out, simply let go. Let go of your desires, your fears, and your doubts. Let go of your expectations and your worries. Now that you have completed this course, let all the words go. Let go of your life and your death. Just let everything be as it is. This is the summation of all the reflections and exercises of this course. Nothing special to be, no wounds to heal, no past or future to bind you. Let go of all of that. This is death and the culmination of life.
