This month we will be exploring the Right Livelihood. Cultivation of Right Livelihood relates to bringing the practice into our work, school, volunteerism. It means that no area of our life should be left out. This month we want to investigate how we are in relationship with our livelihood. Spend this month contemplating your relationship to your work life? How do you feel about going to work? When you describe what you do to others is there any exaggeration, hesitation, distortion, or inward apology? Do you even include the practice in this aspect of your life? Try doing whatever you do for your livelihood without judging whether it fits your definition of Right Livelihood. See if you can assess your work life in terms of interest rather than spiritual growth. What part(s) of your work do you delight in doing? Maybe, notice whether you are overextended in your work life. Do you carry a level of stress and inward pressure that moves out of your job into family life? Are you able to get in touch with the emotions driving the stress? What self-assumptions are at work? This month is not about fixing the problems at work or evaluating your desire to change jobs. This month is about noticing how you show up at work, any work. It is about looking at all aspects of your life with fresh eyes?
