This month we will be practicing with Resolve (Adhitthana in Pali). Our last two weeks are about actually putting resolve into practice. Resolve is a moment to moment practice. It is a willingness to return to one’s intention around practice; not out of guilt, shame or force. This willingness is a gentle curiosity within the experience. It begins with setting an intention. It could be to pay attention to and investigate unpleasant emotions. It could be to give up some habitual action and watch what arises. It could be to practice Metta once a day and watch what happens around it whether you are able to stick with it or not. The idea is to practice with some limited thing just to learn about it, like a scientist would investigate a hypothesis. Over the next two weeks set an intention to investigate something. Then see if you can stay interested in the investigation. The practice of resolve is in your willingness to return to the intention.
