Date: 2016-03-11
Venue: Seattle Insight Meditation Center
Description
Human beings are as fundamentally relational as they are individual. We evolved to depend upon, enjoy, fear, and read the emotions of others. The Buddha’s teachings speak to suffering and freedom in this human life, so the Dharma and its practices must include our relatedness. Even though the Buddha named spiritual friendship as essential to the holy life, the teachings have evolved in the west to mirror our culture: individualistic, heroic, and often isolating. In this talk, Gregory looks at the big picture of spiritual friendship, including the relational aspects of the Noble Eightfold Path, right speech, and the vision of a community that enfolds interpersonal meditation and contemplation practices.
