Description
In this daylong, through meditations, talks, interviews and discussions, we will fully explore Anatta. Self and Not Self. What does it really mean? I’m me! Right? You are you! Right? Or are we? Why is this teaching so important?
Teachers
The teachers for this daylong are Lyndal Johnson, Steve Wilhelm, Judith Avinger and Sooz Appel.
Topics Covered Include:
- Anatta is the third of the three characteristics of life (Dukkha, Anicca and Anatta)—it’s a very important teaching.
- Our views that the self is solid and continuous. We’ll look at practices that help us gain a deep understanding that the self is insubstantial and impermanent.
- The differences between the “navigational self” (the one we depend upon to get us where we’re going, do the job we have, figure things out and commit to our practice) and the “not self” (ultimately seeing the fleeting nature of what and who we call Me).
- What feeds our sense of self; what helps us loosen our grip on it.
- The process of “thinning” of self—practices that support the thinning.
- The sense of freedom that is available when we deepen our understanding of Anatta.
This daylong is suitable for beginners and people with many years of practice. Understanding Self and Not Self is an on-going process. You don’t have to wait years until you get it. Insights and understanding are available right now.
