We look forward to welcoming you to the Day of Mindfulness (DOM) led by SIMS Co-Guiding Teacher Tim Geil and Steve on Saturday, May 18th, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm PT. This event will be held both In-Person at the University Friends Meeting House and Online via Zoom.

In this Day of Mindfulness (DOM), you will be joining members of the recent six week Introduction to Meditation Class Series taught by Tim, for a day of sitting and walking meditation, dharma talks, and opportunities for small group discussions with the teacher as well as individual interviews with local dharma leaders.

General Information

Teacher Dana: As described in detail in the Donate section on the homepage, the teachings are offered freely and none of your registration donation to SIMS goes to the teachers. Please consider offering dana to support Tim.. Links for offering dana are included on this homepage.  In person, a basket is available for checks or cash. (not meant to be indented)

SIMS Dana:  Thank you for your registration donation which helps to cover our administrative costs.  If you opted for “Donate at the Event – $0,” a SIMS dana basket is available for checks or cash and a QR code is available for electronic donations for those attending in person. Those attending online may use the general donate button and include in the Comments section that this donation is for the Day of Mindfulness on May 18, 2024.    

Cancellations: Please contact the registrar (registrar@seattleinsight.org) if you need to cancel your registration.  There are several options. If you are unable to attend this DOM and wish to attend a later one you may do so by registering for that DOM.  If you have provided an event donation for this DOM or are member of the class, register at the $0 level for the next one.  The next DOM will be on Saturday October 19. You also have the option of a refund of $20 ($30 – $10 handling fee) or you may wish to donate the event donation to SIMS.  Please contact the registrar before the beginning of the DOM if you would like a refund.

Retreat Information for In Person Attendees

Location: Seattle Insight Meditation Society at University Friends Meeting House, 4001 9th Ave NE, Seattle, WA, 98105 (it is in Google Maps)

 Directions and Parking:  https://seattleinsight.org/About/Directions    (contains a map and information about parking and public transportation).

Doors open at 8:45 am. The DOM starts at 9 am. Please try to arrive on time so we can start together. 

Volunteers will be available to greet and orient you.  For security reasons, the gates to the Friends Meeting House will be locked at 9:15 am. If you know ahead of time that you will need to arrive later than 9:15 am please let the registrar know so we can make special arrangements to let you in.  If last minute challenges arise please text Carol at 206-940-2324.

COVID 19 (and other infections disease) Policy for In-Person meetings:  Vaccinations: Highly recommended but we will not be verifying immunization status.  Masks:  Optional.  We ask everyone to respect each person’s decision to wear or not wear a mask.  The SIMS board is following current Washington State and King County recommendations.  We will adjust as needed in the future.      

If you develop symptoms of potentially infectious illness, please use the online option.

Gear: Please feel free to wear casual and comfortable clothing.  We leave our shoes outside the meditation room, so you may want to wear warm socks or slippers.  Chairs are provided. We also have meditation cushions and mats, but feel free to bring your own.

Teacher Bios

Tim Geil began practicing Insight Meditation in 1996 and has taught meditation since 2006 under the guidance of Rodney Smith. In 2016, Tim completed the four-year Residential Retreat Teacher Training through Spirit Rock, Insight Meditation Society, and Insight Retreat Center. The core teachers of this intensive program were Joseph Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, Carol Wilson, Gil Fronsdal, Guy Armstrong, Andrea Fella, Trudy Goodman, and Phillip Moffitt.  Read More, See Talks, Contact Information…
