What negative self-judgments do you harbor? List these on a sheet of paper. Do you self-deny your negative qualities and hide them from others? Write down all the activities, both mental (defense mechanisms) and physical (avoidance behaviors), that keep these perceived truths at bay. Has avoidance worked? Fear must be exposed to truth if it is to end. Take one of your self-judgments and examine it closely. Can you see the forces of history that led to this opinion? Is there room in your heart for this behavior? Will you bring the shadow of your opinion into this moment? Ask if it is true now. Keep shining the truth of now upon it whenever it reappears. Be patient and unremitting in your questioning.
