Description

Patience is not waiting for something to end, but living fully through every event.

Homework

The Buddha is reported to have said, “Patience is the highest form of devotion.” How is devotion related to patience? When you are devoted you are present, surrendering to the moment as it is. Does patience have a conditional edge (I will be patient if…)? Are you holding yourself in check and enduring the wait, or is the waiting timeless? Practice surrendering your waiting this week and attempt not to lean into time. You feel trapped while what you really want to be doing lies elsewhere. Surrender means letting go of the competing desire and devoting yourself to being just where you are. Be aware of your limitations throughout this exercise—the situations when it is possible for you to surrender into a timeless wait and the situations where you are too caught in the competing desire.
