SUMMARY:Awakening-The Path of Friendship with Dave Leggatt/Anna-Brown Griswold (In-Person & Online)
DESCRIPTION:Description\nWhen asked about his Path to Awakening\, the Buddha declares the first essential condition to be finding a good and virtuous friend (kalyāṇamitta). In the Aṅguttara Nikāya 9.1\, he follows the conditions of friendship and virtue with the third essential condition of talk on ten topics. \nFriday evening is an introduction to the retreat topic and the practice of Insight Dialogue.  It is open to anyone.  Friday evening’s talk will be held in person at University Friends Meeting House and online. \nTeacher Bios \nDave Leggatt practiced in the Vipassana tradition for many years. He was introduced to Insight Dialogue in 2011 and joined the Insight Dialogue facilitator program in 2016. Since then Dave has been facilitating and teaching in-person workshops\, retreats and online offerings. Aware of the importance of spiritual friendship and the power of Insight Dialogue practiced in daily life\, he enjoys expanding the boundaries of practice for himself and others. He founded the annual Kalyanamittata retreat and offers practice in the global Insight Dialogue community. He is active on a number of community teams. Dave lives in Toronto\, Canada. \nAnna-Brown Griswold fell in love with Insight Dialogue practice in 2012 after nearly twenty years of practice and study in the Tibetan and Zen koan lineages of Buddhism\, including monastic practice and extended solitary retreats. For most of her adult life she’s been experimenting with how to integrate the awakening power of dharma practice\, the skills of psychotherapeutic healing\, and an embodied lens of social justice. Anna-Brown currently shares Insight Dialogue practice online and locally in Seattle\, WA\, where she works as a trauma therapist and facilitator.  As a mom to a toddler\, bringing Insight Dialogue into the whole beautiful mess of parenting is an ongoing practice. \nRegistration & Donation\nNo registration is required. For Online participants\, a meeting link will be provided on the Online page\, prior to the event. \nThe suggested event donation is $10. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Dana is a term for generosity\, or freely offered giving. Dana for SIMS can be offered on our website on the Donate page. Thank you for your generosity! \nTo offer Dana to Dave or Anna\, please use the following link and choose Dave Leggatt from the teacher options: https://insightdialogue.org/dana-for-teachers/. \nQuestions \nIf you have a question for the teacher or about this event\, please email registrar@seattleinsight.org.

SUMMARY:Introductory Meditation Class Series (In-Person & Online)
DESCRIPTION:This introductory meditation class meets weekly for 6 weeks\, Sept 14-October 19 from 7-9PM\, PDT. It will meet in a hybrid setting\, both In-Person and Online simultaneously. When you register\, you will be required to choose between In-Person and Online. \nClass registration includes a Day of Mindfulness the Saturday after the last class\, October 21st. Please see dates to be aware of below. \nAbout Insight Meditation\nInsight meditation also known as mindfulness or vipassana meditation comes from the Buddhist tradition. It aims to free the mind from the distortions of self-centeredness\, negativity\, and confusion. Seeing life as a constantly changing process\, one begins to accept pleasure and pain\, fear and joy\, and all aspects of life with increasing balance and equanimity. This balanced awareness\, grounded in the present moment\, leads to stillness and a growing understanding of the nature of life. Out of this seeing emerges wisdom and compassion. \nIt is a moment-to-moment investigation of the mind and body process. Our experience is explored from a balanced and spacious awareness which allows the heart to flower in love. During these six weeks there will be meditation instructions\, talks about the philosophy of the practice\, homework assignments\, and time for discussion and questions. \nDates to Be Aware Of\nYour registration includes attendance at a Day of Mindfulness on Saturday\, October 21\, 2023. \nPlease note that registrations are being accepted up through the second class on September 21st. SIMS registration volunteers are available until the event’s start time. Registration closes at the start of the event. \nIf you have a question about this class series or for the teacher\, please contact registrar@seattleinsight.org \nRegistration and Donation\nThe suggested event donation is $90 for the six-week series including the Day of Mindfulness\, with options for $120 as a benefactor and $60 for a supported donation. Following our tradition\, none of this donation will go to the teacher. Please consider offering teacher dana at the event to support their livelihood. (Dana is a term for generosity\, or freely offered giving). No one is turned away for inability to offer a donation. Please use your best efforts to pay the suggested donation or another heartfelt amount. \nPlease register below. Since this is a series where each class builds on the previous ones\, registration is closed after the second class. A zoom link will be sent to all those who have registered. \nIf you choose to donate at time of event and this is an online class\, please go to our Donate Page. Instructions for mailing in a check are included there as well.

He is currently living in northern Thailand\, furthering his development of meditation and cultivation of the mind\, and factors that trigger the actions we engage\, in the way of the Forest Monk practice. \nTaking dependency within the Dhammayut order\, Bhante’s vision is to create healing in the heart and mind using the art of Vipassana meditation as taught by the Buddha. Bhante aims to establish a community of practitioners and those that have taken ordinance to create the first forest monastery for people of color who are healing from the disparity of discrimination and social injustice based on exclusion from being able to heal in a way that we see fit to heal\, without intervention from traumas\, past or present. \nUse of the triple gem\, love\, kindness\, mercy\, compassion\, and the establishment of traditional formal meditation will be the driving force to which Bhante Panna would like to apply our healing transformation. \nBhante can be found on Instragram at https://instagram.com/bronthepath\, on TikTok at https://www.tiktok.com/@bhantepanna\, and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/brotheronthpath. \nDana for Bhante Panna can be made via this link: https://wise.com/share/nathanb1344 \nSpecial Note about Hybrid Zoom/In-Person Meeting\nMonday Night Dhamma Talk and Meditation is a hybrid meeting—in person and online.   You are invited to come in person\, or everyone is also welcome to join via Zoom. Current event status and links are on the Online Events page. \nIf you are attending in person and arriving late\, please be aware that for safety purposes the entry doors will be closed and locked for the evening at 7:15 P.M.  \nQuestions?\nIf you have questions about this event\, please contact webmaster@seattleinsight.org. \nDana for SIMS and the Teachers can be offered online at https://seattleinsight.org/donate\, or in person on Monday nights. \nThe Monday evening ongoing class at SIMS starts with a meditation and is followed by a dhamma talk. SUMMARY:Introductory Meditation Class Series (In-Person & Online)
DESCRIPTION:This introductory meditation class meets for 6 weeks\, May 18-June 22 from 7-9PM\, PDT. It will meet in a hybrid setting\, both In-Person and Online simultaneously. When you register\, you will be required to choose between In-Person and Online. \nClass registration includes a Day of Mindfulness the Saturday after the last class\, June 24th. Please see dates to be aware of below. \nCOVID Policy for In-Person meetings\nVaccinations: Highly Recommended but we will not be verifying immunization status. \nMasks: Optional. We ask everyone to respect each person’s decision to wear or not wear a mask \nThe board is following current Washington State and King County recommendations. We will adjust as needed in the future. \nDates to Be Aware Of\nYour registration includes attendance at a Day of Mindfulness on Saturday\, June 24\, 2022. \nPlease note that registrations are being accepted up through the second class on May 25th.
