SUMMARY:Family Walk in the Woods at Carkeek Park
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Action Group is inviting families to a mindful walk in the woods with activities targeting preschool and elementary aged kids at Carkeek Park on Saturday\, August 19\, 2023. We’ll meet at the Carkeek Park Beach parking area (next to the bridge to the beach with the piano key crosswalk). \nWe will BEGIN our walk promptly at 9:30 am. We recommend you arrive by 9:15 to find parking and use the bathroom if needed. We will follow the Piper’s Creek Trail to the Wetland Trail and spend some time there with a few activities encouraging kids to use their senses of hearing\, seeing\, smelling and touching to be present with nature. \nIn June the Climate Action Group invited the SIMS sangha to a (mostly) silent walking meditation at Seward Park in order to connect with each other in honoring our grief around the environmental loss we are witnessing in the world today. One of our sangha members\, Elliott Weiss\, asked if kids were welcome. Since we envisioned this first walk as a silent walking meditation\, we said — not this time\, but what a good idea! This walk in August is for the kids. It will be discovery in a quiet direction\, but certainly not silent. Elliott\, who is familiar with Carkeek and with kids (he has a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old) will lead the walk. Of course\, adults of all ages are welcome to join us. \nThere is ample parking\, but you can take public transit. Metro Bus Route 28 has stops in both directions along NW 100th Place in the block SW of the park entrance. Bus Route 28 has stops on 3rd Ave NW in front of Viewlands Elementary School. The Metro RapidRide D Line bus is its northernmost stop in the same block behind the QFC Market. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact lauren@seattleinsight.org.
