SUMMARY:Insights on Dhamma and Healing from a Black Monastic in the Thai Forest Tradition with Bhante Panna (In-Person & Online)
DESCRIPTION:Description\nBhante Panna will be joining SIMS during this Monday night’s Sangha gathering to share on his experiences in the forest and elsewhere around the world with Vipassana and monastic life. He will also share from his book\, Thoughtless Love: A Parable About Happiness. Bhante Panna is a Black American monk living in a forest monastery near Bangkok. He has a popular Instagram (@bronthepath) where he shares his life of contemplation. \nThis event will be both in person at UFM and online.  Registration is not required. \nThe following is a link to a dhamma talk by Bhante Panna on “Intersections of Dhamma and Race: Insights in Unjust World”: https://insightmyanmar.org/complete-shows/2020/9/29/episode-20-intersections-of-dhamma-and-race-insights-in-an-unjust-world \nTeacher Bio\nBhante Panna is the first melanated American of Aboriginal descent to have ordained in the Thai Forest tradition. He is a Seattle native who has been a world traveler since the age of nineteen\, living extensively throughout northern Africa and the Arabian gulf\, beginning in 1998. He has been a student of religious knowledge and a practitioner of many paths within the field of Islam and esoteric knowledge. Through these rich experiences\, Bhante deepened his spiritual understanding. He eventually ordained as a Buddhist monk in Angkor Wat\, Cambodia. \nHe took up higher ordination as a full-time monk (Bhikkhu) in Siam Reap’s mountain jungle temples. He is currently living in northern Thailand\, furthering his development of meditation and cultivation of the mind\, and factors that trigger the actions we engage\, in the way of the Forest Monk practice. \nTaking dependency within the Dhammayut order\, Bhante’s vision is to create healing in the heart and mind using the art of Vipassana meditation as taught by the Buddha. Bhante aims to establish a community of practitioners and those that have taken ordinance to create the first forest monastery for people of color who are healing from the disparity of discrimination and social injustice based on exclusion from being able to heal in a way that we see fit to heal\, without intervention from traumas\, past or present. \nUse of the triple gem\, love\, kindness\, mercy\, compassion\, and the establishment of traditional formal meditation will be the driving force to which Bhante Panna would like to apply our healing transformation. \nBhante can be found on Instragram at https://instagram.com/bronthepath\, on TikTok at https://www.tiktok.com/@bhantepanna\, and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/brotheronthpath. \nDana for Bhante Panna can be made via this link: https://wise.com/share/nathanb1344 \nSpecial Note about Hybrid Zoom/In-Person Meeting\nMonday Night Dhamma Talk and Meditation is a hybrid meeting—in person and online.   You are invited to come in person\, or everyone is also welcome to join via Zoom. Current event status and links are on the Online Events page. \nIf you are attending in person and arriving late\, please be aware that for safety purposes the entry doors will be closed and locked for the evening at 7:15 P.M.  \nQuestions?\nIf you have questions about this event\, please contact webmaster@seattleinsight.org. \nDana for SIMS and the Teachers can be offered online at https://seattleinsight.org/donate\, or in person on Monday nights. \nThe Monday evening ongoing class at SIMS starts with a meditation and is followed by a dhamma talk. The evening is open to anyone who has had introductory meditation instruction from a qualified instructor. Dhamma talks are often presented in series. \nRegistration & Donation\nRegistration is not needed for this class. The suggested event donation is $5\, plus teacher dana. (Dana is a term for generosity\, or freely offered giving.) Teacher dana can be offered at the event or online. Please make your best effort to pay the suggested donation or another heartfelt amount. All are welcome regardless of ability to pay. \n
