Evening Dharma Talk and Benefit with Sharon Salzberg (Online)

August 28 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm PDT

“Meditation deepens our sense of courage” ~ a recent quote from Sharon.

We welcome Sharon Salzberg for an on-line fundraising event to create a new spiritual home for SIMS!

Sharon has graciously offered all Dana be given to the Grow Our Dharma Roots fund. It will sustain the dharma for future generations. Donate to the “Grow Our Dharma Roots” Fund and learn more about the SIMS Remodel Project at UFM HERE.

Sharon is part of the SIMS family, a legacy teacher who has been coming to SIMS for over 20 years.  The last time we hosted her was in 2018, so we are very excited to hear her teachings on loving kindness, compassion and finding balance in a world of unending pain and suffering.

Sharon’s Bio

Sharon Salzberg is a meditation pioneer, one of three most senior Vipassana meditation teachers in the West.  She is responsible for bringing the practice of Loving Kindness Meditation and Mindfulness to the West from Asia near 50 years ago. She is a New York Times best-selling author of nearly a dozen books. Sharon is co-founder of The Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA. Her practical wisdom, humor and genuine reflections on your own personal struggles with self-compassion, have supported the well being of millions of people all over the world.

Her teachings focus on the balance of holding the suffering of others with prioritizing one’s own mental health and happiness. Sharon fills retreat halls not only with new and seasoned meditation practitioners but with many others in the behavioral health, psychology, and health care fields as well.

Sharon’s secular, modern approach to Buddhist teachings is sought after at schools, conferences, and retreat centers worldwide. Her podcast, The Metta Hour, has amassed over 3 million downloads and features interviews with the top leaders and thinkers of the mindfulness movement and beyond. Sharon’s writing can be found on Medium, On Being, the Maria Shriver blog, and Huffington Post. Learn more at her website  https://www.sharonsalzberg.com.

Grow Our Dharma Roots

University Friends has offered SIMS a 10-year, full-time lease in the first story of their building. Funds are needed to remodel the space to include a dedicated spiritual hall for 75 participants, available to us 24/7, a permanent AV system to allow for live-streaming of SIMS events, as well as offer “hybrid” events—both in person and online.

Registration and Donation

Registration for this Online Talk is required. The suggested event donation is $10.

We are grateful for the kindness of a generous donor who has agreed to match the registration and donations from this event, dollar for dollar. Your generosity will be doubled so please give what you can!

No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. The dharma continues to be freely offered to all who seek it because of your dana or generosity. Together we will grow our dharma roots to ensure the path and the teachings are there for the future, just as they are for us today.

A zoom link will be sent to all those who have registered.
