Description A fundamental aspect of establishing embodied mindfulness centers around contemplations of the elements. In the Satipaį¹į¹hÄna Sutta, the four elements of earth, water, fire, and air represent the four basic qualities of matterāsolidity, liquidity, temperature, and motion. The Buddha also gave instructions on space as a fifth element. Through contemplation of these five universal elements and utilizing the Nine Bodies Insight practice, we can bring a cooling of the grasping mind and cultivate a deeper felt sense of emptiness and fullness.
This Daylong is open to everyone (new and continuing students) who wish to explore the intersection of Nine Bodies Insight practice with the Buddhaās teachings on contemplating the elements. We will practice with the descriptive nature of each of the elements, which can be known through the felt-sense, energetic-sense, and intuitive-knowing. We will contemplate the relationship they have with each other, their importance to establishing mindfulness and concentration, and allow them to support the knowing from which insight naturally arises.
Model of Mutual Support This program is offered by donation, with a suggested range of $15 – $200, which will be shared by the teacher for teaching the class and by Dharma Ground for hosting this class. You are invited to offer what is appropriate given your life circumstances (including an offering outside of the suggested range). All offerings are gratefully accepted. All registration offerings are tax-deductible.
