SUMMARY:Heart to Heart: Relational Practice with the Brahma Viharas
DESCRIPTION:Join Ghisly Garcia and Rachel Hammerman for a month of cultivating a heart as wide as the world using the Brahma Viharas in relational meditation practices. \nCultivating these four heart qualities (loving kindness\, compassion\, appreciative joy and equanimity) in relationship with other beings amplifies the deepening of meditative qualities and dhamma wisdom that frees the heart.  \n\nEach two hour session may include instruction\, a guided meditation\, a dharma talk\, and relational meditation practices in pairs and small groups such as Insight Dialogue\, partner check-ins\, and partner RAIN. \n\nParticipants are encouraged to come to all four sessions in person at Seattle Insight Meditation Center\, but there is no requirement to join all sessions.  Please RSVP at the bottom of the page here to let the teachers know which dates you plan to attend. \nTeacher Bios\nGhisly Garcia has a deep love for dharma practice that has grown steadily and all at once since her first retreat in 2013. She practices primarily in the Theravada tradition through the support of the Seattle Insight sangha\, where she is a volunteer and Dharma Leader trainee\, as well as retreat centers like Cloud Mountain\, Spirit Rock\, Insight Meditation Society\, and Insight Retreat Center. She is a trained mindfulness educator through Inward Bound Mindfulness Education and the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. Ghisly is passionate about making ancient mindfulness practices accessible to BIPOC youth. \nRachel Hammerman (they/them) is an Insight Dialogue teacher and offers classes and retreats at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies\, Insight Dialogue Community\, New York Insight Meditation Center\, the Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science and Tibet House US. After spending a year in silent retreat practice over the past four years\, Rachel is happy to be a new resident of Seattle. SUMMARY:Embodiment of Transcendental Dependent Origination (TDO): Freedom from Spiritual Bypassing
DESCRIPTION:This daylong immersion explores Transcendental Dependent Origination (TDO) as an embodied\, lived realization rather than a purely conceptual or metaphysical insight. Situated in the contemporary context of 2026 and beyond—marked by technological acceleration\, collective trauma\, identity fragmentation\, and the commodification of spirituality—the course examines how misunderstood transcendence often becomes a form of spiritual bypassing. Participants will investigate how disembodied interpretations of non-duality\, emptiness\, or transcendence can reinforce dissociation\, ethical disengagement\, and unresolved psychological patterns. Through somatic inquiry\, contemplative practice\, and relational reflection\, the training restores Transcendental Dependent Origination as a dynamic\, ethical\, and nervous-system–aware process—revealing how liberation emerges not by escaping conditions\, but by fully embodying their interdependence in thought\, body\, action\, and relationship. \nPrerequisites\nBeginners are welcome at this daylong! \nTeacher Bio\nNana Gyesie\, PhD is an ICF certified leadership\, life and spiritual coach\, and a RYT 200 certified Kemetic Yoga teacher under Master Yirser Ra Hotep. He was precepted by Bhante Buddharakkita. The dharma is a tool for his ongoing liberation\, particularly focusing on metta\, anapanasati.  Nana practices at the Seattle Insight Meditation Center\, under the tutelage of Tuere Sala and Tim Geil. DESCRIPTION:Many folks start their week with Monday\, so we’ll start it off with kindness\, care\, love\, and goodwill. A rotating cast of leaders (Temira\, Judith\, Adam\, and perhaps others) will offer up a variety of forms of metta. Each week we’ll have a 30 minute sit. Sometimes\, if the leader has time\, there will be space after for questions and reflections\, but that’s totally optional for all involved. We’re there to open our hearts and create some goodness together as a sangha before we head out into the world. DESCRIPTION:Join Ghisly Garcia and Rachel Hammerman for a month of cultivating a heart as wide as the world using the Brahma Viharas in relational meditation practices. \nCultivating these four heart qualities (loving kindness\, compassion\, appreciative joy and equanimity) in relationship with other beings amplifies the deepening of meditative qualities and dhamma wisdom that frees the heart.  \n\nEach two hour session may include instruction\, a guided meditation\, a dharma talk\, and relational meditation practices in pairs and small groups such as Insight Dialogue\, partner check-ins\, and partner RAIN. \n\nParticipants are encouraged to come to all four sessions in person at Seattle Insight Meditation Center\, but there is no requirement to join all sessions.  Please RSVP at the bottom of the page here to let the teachers know which dates you plan to attend. \nTeacher Bios\nGhisly Garcia has a deep love for dharma practice that has grown steadily and all at once since her first retreat in 2013. She practices primarily in the Theravada tradition through the support of the Seattle Insight sangha\, where she is a volunteer and Dharma Leader trainee\, as well as retreat centers like Cloud Mountain\, Spirit Rock\, Insight Meditation Society\, and Insight Retreat Center. SUMMARY:Practicing with the Anapanasati Sutta
DESCRIPTION:The Anapanasati Sutta is the Buddha’s Discourse on the Mindfulness of Breathing.  However\, this sutta covers far more than mindfulness of breathing alone.   In this style of meditation\, we use the breath to maintain concentration and steadiness of mind\, as we explore all facets of our experience\, from the simplicity of the breath and the body through deep wisdom and insight.     Anapanasati practice can help us to learn to balance concentration with mindfulness and investigation.  Also\, the Anapansati instructions align closely with the path of Transcendent Dependent Arising\, which we are exploring this year at Seattle Insight.   \nIn this class\, we will cover the four sets of instructions in the Anapansati sutta. We’ll start with awareness of the breath and the body; move to rapture and other feelings; then to the mind; and finally toward wisdom and the recognition of impermanence and cessation. The classes will combine meditation instruction from the Anapanasati Sutta along with practical suggestions for how to incorporate the teachings into our daily practice.  \nWe will follow these four classes with a fifth session where we will regroup and talk about how the practice has been going over the past month and how to continue with it into the future.  \nThe class will meet for four consecutive Thursdays (5/21\, 5/28\, 6/4\, and 6/11) and then will meet for a fifth time on 6/25. SUMMARY:Heart to Heart: Relational Practice with the Brahma Viharas
DESCRIPTION:Join Ghisly Garcia and Rachel Hammerman for a month of cultivating a heart as wide as the world using the Brahma Viharas in relational meditation practices. \nCultivating these four heart qualities (loving kindness\, compassion\, appreciative joy and equanimity) in relationship with other beings amplifies the deepening of meditative qualities and dhamma wisdom that frees the heart.  \n\nEach two hour session may include instruction\, a guided meditation\, a dharma talk\, and relational meditation practices in pairs and small groups such as Insight Dialogue\, partner check-ins\, and partner RAIN. \n\nParticipants are encouraged to come to all four sessions in person at Seattle Insight Meditation Center\, but there is no requirement to join all sessions.  Please RSVP at the bottom of the page here to let the teachers know which dates you plan to attend. \nTeacher Bios\nGhisly Garcia has a deep love for dharma practice that has grown steadily and all at once since her first retreat in 2013. She practices primarily in the Theravada tradition through the support of the Seattle Insight sangha\, where she is a volunteer and Dharma Leader trainee\, as well as retreat centers like Cloud Mountain\, Spirit Rock\, Insight Meditation Society\, and Insight Retreat Center. She is a trained mindfulness educator through Inward Bound Mindfulness Education and the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. Ghisly is passionate about making ancient mindfulness practices accessible to BIPOC youth. \nRachel Hammerman (they/them) is an Insight Dialogue teacher and offers classes and retreats at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies\, Insight Dialogue Community\, New York Insight Meditation Center\, the Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science and Tibet House US. After spending a year in silent retreat practice over the past four years\, Rachel is happy to be a new resident of Seattle.
