DESCRIPTION:The Thursday Night Sangha is a drop-in group dedicated to supporting the meditation practice of people living in the Seattle area and beyond. Previous vipassana practice and/or previous attendance at a beginning meditation class is helpful but not essential. A 30 minute sit begins at 6:30 PM with a short Dharma talk and open discussion following. Tuere gives a talk on the first Thursday of the month. Practice reflections from cohort members (advanced practitioners who Tuere chooses\, there are about 15 of us) are given on the following Thursday nights on the monthly topic. DESCRIPTION:The Climate Action Group at Seattle Insight was started in May of 2018 by a few sangha members concerned about the climate crisis. We are interested in working within our sangha and from the ground of our Dharma practice to learn\, understand\, connect\, and with wise intention and view\, take appropriate actions. \nWe meet monthly and have sponsored several programs at Seattle Insight. We have an online bulletin board with our mission\, goals\, and meeting notes\, as well as a variety of resources to deepen understanding of the climate crisis and how to take meaningful action.  We offer “Practices for a livable planet” as one way to engage with the climate crisis as Buddhist practitioners. \nSigning up to be on our email list provides access to our bulletin board and monthly invitations to attend our meetings. DESCRIPTION:The Thursday Night Sangha is a drop-in group dedicated to supporting the meditation practice of people living in the Seattle area and beyond. Previous vipassana practice and/or previous attendance at a beginning meditation class is helpful but not essential. A 30 minute sit begins at 6:30 PM with a short Dharma talk and open discussion following. Tuere gives a talk on the first Thursday of the month. Practice reflections from cohort members (advanced practitioners who Tuere chooses\, there are about 15 of us) are given on the following Thursday nights on the monthly topic. DESCRIPTION:Every Monday evening at Seattle Insight starts with a silent or lightly guided 40 minute meditation\, followed by a Dharma talk and discussion. It is recommended that those who attend have had introductory meditation instruction in mindfulness or Insight Meditation at Seattle Insight or elsewhere. Talks are offered as part of an ongoing series\, but you are welcome to attend any time. \nRegistration & Donation\nRegistration is not needed for this event. The suggested donation is $5\, plus teacher dana. Dana is a term for generosity\, or freely-offered giving. You can read more about dana here. SUMMARY:Monday Morning Metta (MMM)
DESCRIPTION:Many folks start their week with Monday\, so we’ll start it off with kindness\, care\, love\, and goodwill. A rotating cast of leaders (Temira\, Judith\, Adam\, and perhaps others) will offer up a variety of forms of metta. Each week we’ll have a 30 minute sit. Sometimes\, if the leader has time\, there will be space after for questions and reflections\, but that’s totally optional for all involved. We’re there to open our hearts and create some goodness together as a sangha before we head out into the world. DESCRIPTION:This will be a slow-paced meandering walking meditation\, short distance\, no rush. Just enjoying the beauty of nature & building community together under the evening light at Mount Rainier. \nAll hiking abilities are welcome & you are encouraged to bring friends\, family\, and children. Anyone is welcome! \nWe will conclude the hike with an optional reflection / sit\, those who wish to can grab their blankets and cushions from their cars\, and we’ll sit for a 50-minute quiet reflection and connection circle right at edge of Tipsoo Lake\, as the sun sets across the face of the mountain\, we can enjoy the alpenglow and shifting golden hues of light as a community. \nRegistration:\nPlease register for the hike at this link. \nDetails:\n– Trail: Naches Peak Loop Trail\, Mount Rainier\nGather at SIMS for Carpooling at 1:45pm\, or meet us at Tipsoo Lake Trailhead at 4:15pm\n– Distance: 3.3 miles\n– Elevation Gain: ~600 feet\n– Difficulty: Easy \nCarpooling Info:\nMeet at Seattle Insight\, Aug 1st at 1:45pm. (back to cars at 7:30pm)\n7:30 PM – Back at Tipsoo Lake\, Early Cohort Departs: Finish the hike back at Tipsoo Lake\, the early cohort can now depart to arrive back in Seattle around 9:45pm. Say our goodbyes.\n7:45 PM — 8:35pm (50mins) Sunset Meditation Circle: Those who wish to remain can grab their blankets and cushions from their cars\, settle in at the edge of Tipsoo Lake\, and begin practice\, 50-min reflection / connection / just enjoying the peak sunset alpenglow and golden hues shifting across the face of Mount Rainier\, reflecting across the still water of the lake\, and softly touching the alpine wildflowers of summer.\n8:40 PM — Sunset Group Departs: Sunset group departs. Return to Seattle around 10:45pm. \nWhat to bring:\nComfortable walking shoes\nLayers\, including a heavy fleece or puffy jacket. It will get chilly as the sun sets\, we are at high elevation and Rainier weather is unpredictable. Expect cool autumn temperatures\, low 40s. Bring a nice warm coat.\nSun protection (SPF 50+). The atmosphere is thinner at high elevations\, providing little protection from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Sun protection is very important\, we don’t want anyone getting skin cancer.\nPacked lunch\, and plenty of water. If you feel inclined\, you can bring extra food or snacks to share with the group either during the hike or the sunset circle. If you have a 0.1 micron water filter\, this can be nice for refilling water\, but this hike is not particularly strenuous.\nBug spray / mosquito net / windbreaker. The mosquitos are at their peak around this time\, they are truly ravenous. Definitely bring bug spray\, and I also like to pack a baseball cap & mosquito net to put over it\, as well as a windbreaker to protect my arms from bites. Be aware that DEET bug spray is harmful to synthetic fabrics & raincoats\, picaridin is a good alternative.\nBlankets & Sit Cushion / towel & mediation cushion / folding chair. if staying for the sunset reflection time. You can bring a foam sit cushion to sit on the ground for meditation / reflection. Alternatively\, you could bring old towels to place under your meditation cushion\, or use a folding chair. Since we will be returning to the cars before the sit\, you won’t need to carry these things a long distance. Bring blankets to snuggle up in while we watch the sunset.\nFriends\, Family\, Children! Anyone is welcome!\n…except dogs\, unfortunately dogs are prohibited to protect the fragile subalpine meadows and wildlife.

SUMMARY:Thursday Night Sangha (Online)
DESCRIPTION:The Thursday Night Sangha is a drop-in group dedicated to supporting the meditation practice of people living in the Seattle area and beyond. Previous vipassana practice and/or previous attendance at a beginning meditation class is helpful but not essential. A 30 minute sit begins at 6:30 PM with a short Dharma talk and open discussion following. Tuere gives a talk on the first Thursday of the month. Practice reflections from cohort members (advanced practitioners who Tuere chooses\, there are about 15 of us) are given on the following Thursday nights on the monthly topic. We have a 5 minute break and there is a discussion on the what was shared. It’s a very special sangha. \nRegistration & Donation\nRegistration is not needed for this event.
