Three Day Retreat: Awakening Through the Nine Bodies
Nonresidential retreat - Friday starts at 10am; Saturday and Sunday at 9:30am
with Phillip Moffitt
and Dana DePalma
12/3/2017 4:30 PM (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
at Seattle Insight Meditation Center, (2729 6th Ave. S., Seattle, 98134) (Map It)
The exploration in this retreat builds on the prior day's teachings. Students must attend either Friday during the day or Friday night in order to attend Saturday and Sunday. In order to attend Sunday, one must attend Friday and Saturday.
Please note: The Friday session begins at 10AM and ends at 4PM. Saturday and Sunday sessions begin at 9:30am and end at 4:30pm.
This retreat coincides with the publication of Phillip Moffitt’s book on this topic, Awakening Through the Nine Bodies. The Nine Bodies teachings are an exploration of how to utilize the many dimensions and manifestations of consciousness in meditation. The teachings map out a journey that starts with the kind of consciousness that arises in the physical body and is directly observable, and then takes us through ever more subtle levels of consciousness.
In this three-day non-residential retreat, Phillip and Dana will share their understanding of the Nine Bodies teachings that were transmitted to Phillip by the Himalayan yoga master Swami Sri Premvarni Balyogi. Phillip and Dana will give specific instructions for accessing the various Bodies including how to recognize each Body, how to nourish it, and they will identify the consciousness capacities that come with each Body.
While there will be periods of meditation each day, this retreat will include a significant amount of background information and detailed instructions about the practices due to the subtle nature of this material. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.
If you practice mindfulness meditation, the Nine Bodies teachings offer you a new means for tracking and classifying meditative experiences, which can help you stay present with whatever arises. These explorations may also increase the clarity and specificity of your mindfulness and enable the arising of insight. However, in no way are these teachings a substitute for your lineage practice. Rather, they may help you be more effective in your lineage practice.
Dana DePalma will be co-teaching with Philip. Dana has been studying the Nine Bodies intensively with Phillip for a number of years. She was the co-teacher at last year’s Spirit Rock three day non-residential retreat on this topic.
