The individuals on this page are experienced Dharma practitioners who have been given permission by Rodney Smith to share the Buddha's teaching at appropriate venues and classes sponsored by SIMS. They are being mentored and supervised by Rodney.


Deborah Capwell has been practicing since the 1970s and has meditated in the Theravada tradition since 1995. From 2002 to 2004, she was a member of the first Dedicated Practitioners' Program at Spirit Rock. Since then, she has facilitated groups for "intermediate" practitioners and "post" beginners, as well as a chanting group through SIMS. She has also worked with young practitioners.

Tim Geil teaches from his own direct experience and has been practicinginsight meditation since 1996 under Rodney Smith’s guidance. He hasattended numerous residential retreats and is an active member of SIMS.Tim has facilitated many Kalayana Mita groups, with topics of death anddying, integrating Dharma into daily life, and parenting. He has been aretreat manager for numerous residential and non-residential retreats andmentors members of SIMS. Tim and his wife find much joy in raising their daughter. He is a massage therapist, long time Aikido practitioner, and yoga student, and hasworked as a hospice volunteer.

Craig Rowley has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 1995 and completed Spirit Rock’s Dedicated Practitioner Program in the Spring of 2007. He has served on the SIMS Board since 2004 including a term as Board President.

Rosie Schwartz has been practicing Vipassana meditation for 21 years. She was a founding board member of SIMS. Before retiring, Rosie was a high school teacher. She also supervised student teachers and taught education classes at Western Washington University. Teaching meditation to high schoolers is an enlivening and rewarding experience for her.

Cheryl Slean has been practicing meditation since 1995 in both the Tibetan and Vipassana traditions. She recently completed Spirit Rock’s two year Dedicated Practitioner Program and leads meditation support classes at SIMS and in the community.

Linda Tennant has been meditating since 1996 and practicing Vipassana since 2000. She has facilitated Kalyana Mitta and practice support groups and provides training and support for SIMS Kalyana Mitta group facilitators. She is currently participating in the Spirit Rock Dedicated Practitioners program.
