The Paramis: The Nature of Energy/Strength
For Your Contemplation
This month we will be practicing with Energy/Strength (viriya in Pali). These first two weeks are about investigating the nature of energy/strength in our own lives. The nature of energy/strength can be observed through movement, "nowness" and sustaining interest. Over the next two weeks consider the presence of these conditions around your practice and the way you live out your life. How much are you trying to control your practice and life? What do you think will happen if you stopped trying to secure a certain outcome? See if you can take an hour, a day, a week and try to stay with the now. When the mind gets distracted or caught in the past/future -- see if you can refocus your attention on whatever is presently occurring. Finally, take some time to observe your level of energy and capacity to sustain it when you are curious or interested with something and when you are not.
