Shared Interest Groups

Shared interest groups are one way to nurture practice and develop friendships within the larger SIMS community. These groups do not require facilitators and are usually more informal than KM groups. Each shared interest group depends on a contact person to handle information about meetings. If you have a hobby or activity that you would like to share with other SIMS attendees (for example, seeing movies, taking hikes, sewing quilts, or kayaking), please consider organizing a shared interest group. To find out if other meditators are interested in your topic, please contact the Shared Interest Groups Coordinator.

Current Shared Interest Groups

  • Intuitive Arts as Meditation

    Description:

Process Painting and collage card making (SoulCollage®) are two intuitive art forms that begin with listening to your intuition and trusting in the process of letting go and taking small risks.

This is a wonderful opportunity to practice being engaged in the "mystery' and developing our meditation skills, such as sensing and listening to the subtle shifts of energy in our body, attending to our flow of thoughts and emotions, developing skills in letting go, and practicing being fully present, while engaged in an activity "off of the cushion."

The group members will select one or both of the art forms - process painting and/or collage - to explore their own process. We will use the latest Tuesday evening Sangha homework provided by Rodney Smith as the focus of the monthly meeting.

To help deepen our experience, time will be provided both for journaling privately, and for sharing your process with the group, if you so choose.  Each session will begin with a brief check-in and a short meditation.

No art experience is necessary. This is for everyone.  We hope you will join us in this exploration.

Supplies provided.  (There will be a $5.00 donation per person per session for the supplies, but no one will be turned away if unable to pay.) Please bring an apron or paint shirt, and a sweater (the building heats unevenly).

NOTE: This Shared Interest Group will hold an all day event on June 22 from 10am to 5pm at the normal location.  This all day event is open to the SIMS Sangha.  A small $10 (or whatever you can) is asked to cover supply costs.   Bring a lunch.
