Notes from Rodney: SIMS to Welcome Exciting Dharma Voices in 2010

SIMS feels very alive and healthy as 2009 comes to a close. From the Tuesday-night sits, smaller classes hosted by local dharma leaders, and neighborhood sitting groups, to the book groups and kalyana mitta gatherings, the dharma is active within the sangha.

All this serves to illustrate what we hope to do through SIMS: initiate and promote the dharma in all facets of life. The dharma becomes infectious as the boundary of unconscious living is uprooted through awareness. And in 2010, we’ll continue this theme as we host a variety of renowned and reputable voices.

This winter, Kamala Masters returns in January; her nonresidential weekend will be followed by another with Steve Armstrong in March. Jude Rozhon will offer classes and a day of metta in April. And in May, we will host Franz Moeckl with a weekend of Qigong.

With the theme “A Balance Born of Wisdom,” Sharon Salzberg will teach a weekend nonresidential retreat in July. That same month, I’ll launch my new book, Stepping Out of Self-Deception, with a reading at the Tuesday sangha meeting.

In August, Joseph Goldstein will offer a half-day of contemplation and meditation, and in September, Norman Fischer returns for a weekend nonresidential retreat. Long a SIMS favorite, Christina Feldman arrives to teach in October.

In December, a new face to SIMS, experienced teacher Howard Cohen, will offer a weekend nonresidential retreat. Howard has been teaching for twenty-five years and brings a wonderfully fresh perspective.

In addition, Ajahn Sucitto, Ajahn Sumedho, Stephen Batchelor, Ajahn Sundara, and others have offered to stop in the Northwest next year for dharma talks and discussion.

Please stay tuned to our website’s calendar for further details on SIMS events. The coming year promises to be rich with the teachings of our many honored guests.
